Been reading a great book lately called Straight Line Leadership. It is from a guy named Dusan Djukich. I had never heard of Dusan but heard of the book from Kevin Nations I believe. The book is a quick read. Likely one I will re-read many times as it has lots of nuggets in it.
One of the biggest and simplest takeaways is that the simplest and fastest way to get from point A (where I am now) to point B (where I want to be) is a straight line. Now I know the cynical among you are saying that you would happily charge me big bucks for that coaching but… there is a profound point here.
In the book, it talks about failure and wanting to analyze it. And the author says don’t waste time. Whether you find the reason or not doesn’t matter. What matters is action based on the desired outcome. That is all. Figure out the steps then stay on them like my son asking for the latest xbox game he neeeeeeeds. Dont let anything stop you from the steps. Straight line.
There are lots of other nuggets in the book but I thought this one was strong enough for a quick post. Also, he talks about once you have decided and are committed to this outcome – you commit to doing whatever it takes to achieve it. Not just what you know to do. Not just what you are comfortable doing. Anything it takes.
The reason I bring this up is that it is very easy to give up. Being in business is hard. There is always stuff going on. Whether it is struggling with payroll in a business that isn’t making money… or maybe you are trying to start up an internet business and for some reason it’s not flying off the shelves like you imagined. The bottom line is to make it work you have to be willing to do whatever it takes to make it happen.
People see guys like me or my partner Rob and they must think we got lucky. Trust me we both worked our ass off to get whatever level of success we have achieved. As I type this Rob is running a webinar. I spent YEARS building out the sites that now pay my bills. I have seen lots of guys come and go through the years – the ones who made it are the ones who never quit. Never gave up. Did whatever it takes. That is the straight line.
